अनेक भागांमध्ये काही दिवसांपूर्वी उष्णतेच्या लाटेचा इशारा देण्यात आला आहे.
राज्यातील अनेक ठिकाणी पारा सध्या 40 डिग्री सेल्सिअसच्या वर आहे. सामान्यपणे रणरणत्या उन्हातून जिवाची लाही
लाही होत असताना घशाला कोरड पडल्यावर सर्वात आधी आठवतं ते पाणी. मात्र उन्हाळ्यात
पाण्यानंतर ज्या पेयाची सर्वाधिक मागणी असते ते पेय म्हणजे ऊसाचा रस!
उन्हाळ्यामध्ये अनेक ठिकाणी तात्पुरती रसवंतीगृहे दिसून येतात. तर कायमस्वरुपी
रसवंतीगृहांमध्ये तर अनेकदा उन्हाळ्यात पाय ठेवायला जागा नसते एवढी गर्दी पाहायला
मिळते. पण तुम्ही महाराष्ट्रातील कोणत्याही भागातील सरवंतीगृहांबद्दल एक गोष्ट
नोटीस केली असेल की या रसवंतीगृहांची नावं 'नवनाथ' अथवा 'कानिफनाथ' अशीच असतात. परंतु यामागचं नेमकं
कारण काय.
नवनाथ रसवंती गृहाच्या नावाची गोष्ट साधारण 70 ते 80 वर्षांपूर्वीची आहे. पुणे जिल्ह्यातील पुरंदर तालुक्यातील बोपगाव नावाचं एक गाव आहे. पश्चिम महाराष्ट्रातील या गावचा शेतकरी थोड्याथोडक्या पाण्यावर ऊसाची शेती करत होता. त्याकाळी साखर कारखान्यांना पेव फुटलेलं नव्हतं. त्यामुळे ऊसाला हक्काचं मार्केट नव्हतं, त्यामुळे त्यातून मिळणारा रोजगार नव्हता त्यामुळेच रसवंती गृहांच्या उद्योगाला सुरुवात झाली असावी असं म्हंटल जात
अशाच एका
गावातील एक तरुण नोकरी शोधण्यासाठी मुंबईला आला तेव्हा त्याला कळाले की इथे ऊसाला
भरपूर मागणी आहे. पूर्वी देशी ऊस असायचे ते लहानमुलाला देखील एका फटक्यात
शेंड्यापासून बुडख्यापर्यंत सोलता येतील असे होते. तेव्हा सुरुवातीला उसाचे छोटे
छोटे तुकडे बरणीत भरून विकले जायचे. मग कोण्याच्या तरी लक्षात आलं की दारोदारी ऊस
विकण्यापेक्षा एका ठिकाणी दुकान टाकून त्या ऊसाचा रस विकावा. हळूहळू या ऊसाच्या
रसाने मुंबईकरांवर जादू केली आणि अशा प्रकारे ठिकठिकाणी ऊसाचा रस देणारी रसवंती
गृह उघडली.
बोपगावमधून
रसवंती गृह चालवणारे महाराष्ट्रभर पसरले त्या बोपगावजवळच्या डोंगरावरच्या गुहेत
नाथसंप्रदायाच्या 9 नाथांपैकी एक कानिफनाथ स्वामी
तपश्चर्येला बसले होते असं सांगितलं जात. आजही तेथे सुंदर मंदिर आहे. त्यामुळेच
संपूर्ण पुरंदर तालुका या कानिफनाथांचा भक्त आहे. इथली माणसं जगभर पसरली पण आपल्या
मातीला विसरली नाहीत. त्यांनी आपल्या रसवंतीगृहाचे नाव श्रद्धेनं कुणी ‘नवनाथ’ ठेवलं तर कुणी ‘कानिफनाथ’ ठेवलं," असं म्हटलं जातं.
तसेच
ऊसाच्या रसवंती गृहाची नाव नवनाथ किंवा कानिफनाथ ठेवण्यामागील अजून एक कारण समोर
येत. ते म्हणजे ताजा ऊस हा हत्तीला फार आवडतो आणि कानिफनाथांची उत्पत्ती ही
हत्तीच्या कानातून झाली अशी दंतकथा आहे. त्यामुळे भाव तिथे देव या न्यायाने
कनिफनाथाना ऊस, रस, गूळ आवडतो. इतका यामागील साधा अर्थ आहे. दत्तसंप्रदायाची नाथसंप्रदाय ही
शाखा आहे. त्यामुळे ‘नवनाथ रसवंती’, ‘कानिफनाथ रसवंती’ ही नावे ठेवण्याची प्रथा पडली आणि मग त्या रसवंती गृहांचं यश पाहून इतर
लोकांनी देखील त्याच नावाने रसवंती गृह सुरु केली.

घुंगरु का बांधतात?
"पूर्वी बैलांच्या सहाय्याने फिरवल्या जाणाऱ्या लाकडी घाण्यावर ऊसाचा रस काढला जायचा. पुढे काळानुरुप बैल गेले अन् त्याजी लोखंडी मशीन्स आले. पण या बैलांनी आपल्याला एकेकाळी आपल्याला रसवंतीच्या माध्यमातून जगवलेलं याची आठवण या शेतकऱ्याच्या पोरांनी विसरू दिली नाही. त्यामुळेच बैलाच्या गळ्यातल घुंगरू आजही रस काढणाऱ्या मशीनच्या चरख्यावर छुमछुम आवाज करत आहे.

Why is Raswanti's name Navnath ?

But one thing you may have noticed about Sarvantigrihas in any part of Maharashtra is that these Rasvantigrihas have the same name as 'Navanath' or 'Kanifnath'. But what is the real reason behind this?
When summer comes, the feet automatically turn towards Raswanti Griha. Many people prefer to drink fresh sugarcane juice to avoid the heat of the sun and to keep the body hydrated. But if you read the name of those Raswanti houses, they are Kanifnath or Navnath. But what is the real reason behind this?
The story of Navnath Raswanti Griha's name dates back to about 70 to 80 years ago. There is a village called Bopgaon in Purandar taluka of Pune district. The farmer of this village in western Maharashtra was cultivating sugarcane on little water. At that time, the sugar mills were not booming. It is said that because sugarcane did not have a proper market, there was no employment due to it, that is why the industry of sugarcane houses started.
When a young man from one such village came to Mumbai in search of a job, he realized that sugarcane was in great demand here. In the past, native sugarcane could be peeled from the tip to the bud in one fell swoop by even a small child. At first small pieces of sugarcane were sold in jars. Then someone realized that instead of selling sugarcane door-to-door, they should set up a shop in one place and sell that sugarcane juice. Gradually, this sugarcane juice cast its spell on Mumbaikars and thus Raswanti Griha, offering sugarcane juice, opened up everywhere.
It was said that Kanifnath Swami, one of the 9 Naths of the Nath Sampradaya, was sitting in penance in a cave on the mountain near Bopgaon, which ran the Raswanti Griha from Bopgaon and spread across Maharashtra. Even today there is a beautiful temple. That is why the entire Purandar taluka is a devotee of Kanifnath. The people here spread all over the world but did not forget their soil. It is said that he named his Rasvanti Griha 'Navnath' out of faith, while others named it 'Kanifnath'.
Also, another reason for naming the Rasvanti house of sugarcane as Navnath or Kanifnath comes to the fore. That is, fresh sugarcane is very fond of the elephant and legend has it that Kanifnath originated from the ear of the elephant. Therefore Kanifnathan likes sugarcane, juice and jaggery, according to God. That's the simple meaning behind it. Nathsampradaya is a branch of Dattasampradaya. Hence, the custom of keeping the names 'Navanath Raswanti', 'Kanifnath Raswanti' and then seeing the success of those Raswanti Grihas, other people also started Raswanti Griha with the same name.

Why are bells attached to sugarcane juice machines ?
"In the past, sugarcane juice was extracted on a wooden platform which was rotated with the help of oxen. Later, the oxen went away and the iron machines came. But the farmer's sons did not let us forget that these oxen once fed us through sugarcane. That is why the bell on the neck of the ox is still on the wheel of the juice extraction machine.
